How much do I need?

Measure the bed or the driveway, type it in, and you’ll have a number to give us when you call. Works for stone, topsoil and mulch.

Shape of the area

Fill in the sizes and your answer shows up here.

For example, a bed 20 ft long and 4 ft wide at 3″ deep is 20 cubic feet. That’s 0.74 cubic yards, so you’d ask for 1 yard, or about 15 bushels.

One cubic yard covers

1″ deep324 sq ft
2″ deep162 sq ft
3″ deep108 sq ft
4″ deep81 sq ft
5″ deep65 sq ft
6″ deep54 sq ft

One cubic yard equals

  • 20 bushels (two 5 gallon pails make a bushel)
  • 2,700 to 3,000 lbs, depending on the product
  • 27 cubic feet
  • 27 one cubic foot bags, or 54 half cubic foot bags
  • 60 bags at 50 lbs each

Topsoil galore

We take topsoil seriously. Homeowners and commercial customers both get it here, by the yard, half yard or bushel.

Garden mix

Equal parts screened and shredded topsoil, coarse sand and mushroom compost.

Also

  • Double screened and shredded topsoil, for anything from a home garden to a golf course
  • Mushroom compost on its own

Mulch

  • Natural brown. Undyed, triple ground Pennsylvania hardwood bark.
  • Black. Dyed black Pennsylvania hardwood.

Remulching? We recommend 1″ to 2″. New beds, 3″. Work out the yards.

Slate, wall stone and boulders

For a sitting wall, a slate patio, garden beds, a natural stone retaining wall or a maintenance free property border.
